La sigaretta è un oggetto che si fuma, tendenzialmente formata da un cilindro di carta di dimensioni compatte contenente materiale vegetale ed eventualmente un filtro.

Nella stragrande maggioranza dei casi, visto che il mondo è relativamente banale, la sigaretta contiene semplicemente tabacco lavorato industrialmente, e solo in questa forma è entrata nella cultura di consumo di massa mondiale, anziché con decine di altre erbe e mix possibili (anche se con il tabacco trinciato la questione è un po' diversa). Questo principalmente perché il tabacco contiene nicotina, droga legale in verità poco utile ma che crea fortissima dipendenza, specialmente con l'uso di sigarette anziché altre forme di fumo del tabacco (per svariati motivi).

La carta delle sigarette industriali è spesso vagamente decorata all'esterno, usualmente sempre con delle linee parallele visibili sulla parte combustibile, che ha sfondo bianco, e punti o linee irregolari su quella che corrisponde alla lunghezza del filtro, con sfondo arancione; in alcuni casi, dettagli minuti in mezzo alle due parti o su quella del filtro possono richiamare il marchio.

Le sigarette, e relative cartine e filtri prodotti separatamente per assemblarne di proprie, esistono in vari formati più o meno standard nel mondo. In questo principalmente si classificano per variazioni minori di lunghezza e diametro, ma le piccole differenze possono offrire diverse esperienze di fumo, nonché vibe estetiche diverse.
